Paper 2 intoduction

Chinua Achebe’s 1958 novel, Things Fall Apart was written with the primary goal of presenting a balanced and honest depiction of pre-colonial Nigerian life. The novel follows the life of the Igbo man, Okonkwo and his conflict with the arrival of British colonialist missionaries. Achebe never shies away from showing both the darker and greater parts of each culture; in order to explore the deep complexities and impact, colonialism had on Nigerian culture. This duality and balanced depiction of both cultures ultimately serves as a means of catharsis for Achebe’s own struggle with his dual-culture identity.

  1. Hi Paul!

Your introduction paragraph has got a great direction. It gives a brief idea of the plot of the novel, though I feel this could go a bit further in depth. Your introduction doesn't have any very clear ties to Achebe's personal life. However there was a good connection between the Igbo culture and the resonance of duality within Achebe's life.
